Telemarketing is a method of direct marketing, covering both the promotion or sales (telesales) of products and services.

This involves companies making outbound calls to prospective new customers.

Calls can be warm or cold - a warm call is where a relationship already exists with a customer and the promotion or sales is complimentary.  A cold call is a random call to a customer who has no existing relationship with the company.

There are a number of telemarketing companies such as outsourcers and bureaus.
