Alphanumeric Numbers

There is a trend for alphanumeric telephone numbering, which essentially means that rather than using a sequence of numbers some of the numbers are replaced by letters.

The intention is for the number to be formed into a memorable word which will help the telephone number to stick in the mind of the average consumer.

For example, a taxi firm in America would find it advantageous to have a phone number that would have the number after the dialling code correlating to a specific word or phrase, like 1800 FASTCAB.
